When to Plant Lily of the Nile

Plant your Lily of the Nile Roots in early Spring, as soon as the soil is workable and the danger of frost has passed.

How to Plant Lily of the Nile

Loosen the soil to about 12 inches in depth. To amend soil, you can mix in compost and an all-purpose granular fertilizer. The hole should be wide and deep enough to place the bulb inside without bending the roots, and position the roots so the crown (where the roots meet the stem) is about an inch below the soil surface. Cover the roots with soil and water thoroughly.

How to Care for your Lily of the Nile

After the flowers finish blooming, there's no need to deadhead. If the plants have access to plenty of moisture and are grown in part to full shade, their foliage will stay green throughout the season.
