City Lights - Re-Blooming Bearded Iris
Fall-Planted | Pre-Order Now
Description
We love this beautiful iris, with its frilly, deep blue and white petals and its luminous yellow throat that makes it light up from the inside. Magical! And since City Lights are re-blooming irises, you get to see them light up twice a year—they'll flower in late spring and then again in early fall. They'll grow up to 38 inches tall, so they're perfect for borders and as a backdrop. Make sure you plant the rhizomes in well-drained soil, give them lots of sun, and fertilize them after the first set of blooms has faded. Tip: Since irises bloom at different times depending on their size, combine several types together for an even longer blooming period. City Lights look great with Frequent Flyers! And, good news: they're deer- and rabbit-resistant.

When to Plant your Bearded Irises:
Plant your Bearded Iris rhizomes in the late Summer or early Fall. Rhizomes may bloom lightly their first season, but they will fully establish themselves and regularly bloom in subsequent years.
Where to Plant your Bearded Irises:
Plant your rhizomes in a sunny spot where the soil is well-draining and has a pH level of a little less than 7. If necessary, do a soil test and amend the soil accordingly.
How to Plant your Bearded Irises:
Allow for plenty of space between rhizomes so they don't get too crowded. Space your Iris rhizomes 8-12" apart and position them horizontally. Place the rhizomes into their spots in your planting area and water them well.
How to Care for your Bearded Irises:
When your Bearded Irises are done blooming for the season, cut back the green foliage to about 4-6 inches high so the plant won't waste energy trying to maintain the leaves throughout the winter. Divide your rhizomes every 3-4 years.
